Summer Plans are Underway!

The snow is gently falling...

The snow thrower is broken...

The Squirt Track has been cleared of the new 8" of snow...(skiing will be FANTASTIC Saturday!)

Hard to believe but it is time to start making reservations for summer activities!

I am so excited about our summer plans this year! So far we have King Salmon fishing on the Deshka. (OK - the 44 lb halibut was fun. I'm looking for a 40lb salmon this time around!)

However, while I love to fish and big fish are lots of fun to catch, I think the best thing this summer will be the Katmai bear viewing trip in July. We will be heading to the airport, climbing into a seaplane and flying about 2-3 hours west - into the wilderness. The salmon should be running the bears feasting and us on foot right by them. Katmai is an amazing place - a once in a lifetime chance to be near brown bears who aren't in cages and somewhat people aware. The National Park Service works very hard at keeping people from carrying food in and hunting is not allowed. Plus the bears would much rather have salmon than humans.

You never know though...if the day trip goes really well, maybe next year we will go camping for a week with the bears!
